The course is open to all singers interested in the repertoire of the XVII and XVIII century, and especially in the recitar cantando and mannerism. The students can choose themselves the songs they would like to sing. Special attention will be given to the authors of the “seconda prattica” such as Caccini and Monteverdi. One of the main activities will be the ensemble music, in collaboration with teachers of other courses and accompanied by a cymbalist.[TEACHING CURRICULUM]

FLUTE
Teacher LAURA PONTECORVO

The course is designed both for beginners and advanced level flautists interested in practicing pieces from the Baroque and Classical repertoire. We envisage the participation of flautists interested in XVIII century repertoire even if they do not own this particular instrument which will be supplied by the teacher and placed at the participants disposal. The choice of the repertoire is totally open but we suggest the preparation of XVIII century pieces in different styles. One of the main activities will be the ensemble music, in collaboration with teachers of other courses and accompanied by a cymbalist.

HARPSICHORD AND BASSO CONTINUO
Teacher SALVATORE CARCHIOLO
Apart from some harpsichord experience, the course requires good keyboard technique from the student. Basic techniques of touch and harpsichord articulation will be involved as well as the problems regarding historical technical considerations related to the works which the students will present. The rudiments of basso continuo will also be elaborated. The course will also be based in a special, but not exclusive way on the Italian harpsichord repertoire of the early Seventeenth century. As far as the basso continuo course is concerned, the development of the Italian accompaniment style from its origins until the early Eighteenth century (realization of a non-indicated bass accompaniment, basso continuo in harmony and counterpoint, stylistic declination of the basso continuo in different kind of vocal and instrumental music, “stile pieno”, etc…) will be addressed. All students, regardless of level, are invited to present a list of the works they would like to play during the lessons in advance to the teacher.

ORGAN
Teacher ADRIANO FALCIONI

The course, dedicated to Italian and German music from XVI to XX century, is open to Italian and foreign organists of every level and age.
During the lessons the following two instruments will be used:
1) the antique Organ by Benvenuti / Densi (1582) in Orte Cathedral
2) the Cortinovis & Corna Organ in Giove’s Parish Church
The course, taking into account the diversities of the two instruments, foresees two different programmes:
Orte – study of composers such as Frescobaldi, Pasquini, Storace, Kerll, Muffat, Pachelbel, Haendel;
Giove - works by pre-Bach composers chosen from (Bruhns, Böhm, Lübeck, Buxtehude); Bach (Integrale organistica); Mendelssoh (Three Preludes and Fugues Op. 37, Six Sonate Op. 65); Hindemith (Sonate I, II, III).
The timetable of the lessons will be arranged according to the number of enrolled students and will be communicated on the first day of the course. A concert prize will be awarded to the best student during the 2009 music season “ I Vespri di Maggio”.
